Twelve years ago, Austin had a problem with noise complaints targeting live music venues. This article highlights the importance of amplified sound as an integral part of an entertainment establishment’s programming and business model as opposed to noise that needs to be eliminated. Similar issues have occurred in cities across the world. Austin's integrated approach to sound management can serve as a model for other cities hoping to implement a supportive model for how to handle sound complaints.
